what i've been thinking

I can't deny a certain charm
of blue sky against naked limbs
five black birds perched above
the moon arriving before dark.
Still, I am weary
pondering the endpoints of my life.

I went jogging today and it was warm enough, barely, to wear shorts. The poem above expresses pretty much what I saw and how I felt. I had been reading Benedict's letter Spe Salvi and I was struck by the idea that death is not some kind of punishment that God metes out, but as Augustine and others have stated, a kind of (partial) remedy. (The Navajo creation story makes a similar point where the twin brothers after slaying various monsters come across the old woman Sa' who represents mortality. They want to slay her too, but she talks them out of it. ) Anyhow, that what I've been thinking...

Basic Car Wash

I, Subaru
am a monad,
an atomized mobile automaton,
an insect just like everybody else:
Four of my six legs are wheels.

The snow and ice are gone
but poison salt still sticks my underside.

Process:
shell US Dollars out to Shell,
punch code in keypad, pulling
ahead until a red light signals stop
(Jesus-fish and ribbons looping
martial-yellow, cancer-pink down by the drain)
Seducing foam... tsunami wash... senescent rinse...
green light intimating, Thank You. Come Again!

Banners stream, "Mc Rib is Back!"
Sweet Ronald, hold me.

Fluids force,

And what was once productive-rolling
skirts, skates, skips
as silence slips.
Breaking, calling,
Awaken falling,
Slowly conversations sift.

I'm free to go but not exactly free.
Confined to bed and feeling rather sick.
The southern window's become a baleful eye.
Busted now, I am no longer hidden.

Doing what tastes right.

I went on a jog this morning, and the half-gnawed humerus and doggie ulna was still there right in the middle of the bike path, but it didn't bother me because I am used to it now. I can only hope that it is not some sort of message left by the trolls or gangstas warning joggers like myself to keep off their turf. Whatever. I ate fast food for lunch today and I think I am going to die anyways.

subterrarean strategy

A wholly different way of feeling good
is to feel bad, moving the baseline down
to far below where one would care to be
and then to steal and wait out quietly
as drowsy days and dreamless nights repeat,
Repeat, converge then sink: oblivion.

honest mistake part II

It turns out that they were following the directions that came with the plant. The directions said in essence, "give the plant a cup of water every day and the plant is gonna die and there's nothing you can do about it." Nothing to do about it? How about not following those devious instructions. Put that plant in a clay pot with drainage, don't over water and I guarantee that the plant won't die. Those marketing bastards.

honest mistake

My Dad bought a rosemary plant that was in the shape and form of a minature christmas tree. Less than a week and the plant is already dead. The container that the plant was in was nice and christmas-y looking, but had absolutely no drainage, and of course everyone knows that plants need water. I'm sure there's a lesson in that somewhere.

just an idea

I have been thinking about the meaning of the word 'spiritual.' And what I have come up with is that it is the "great something else." You want "w" so that you can have, or get somewhere along the line: x, y and z and be happy. But something happens and 'w' never comes or perhaps w comes but it turns out that x, y, and z aren't really that great. Things then are as they are, yet inexplicably you are happy. The spiritual is that "great something else" that is, happiness independent of wants and desires. In the language of the previous posts Heaven is a trainwreck and Hell is a clusterf_ck.

pissing calvin decal

Today, I saw one of those pissing calvin decals the kind that are often on the rear window of pick up trucks only calvin wasn't peeing on a rival brand, say Ford if the driver happened to be in a Dodge. No, calvin was peeing on the name 'Satan' which got me thinking:"What if Satan was a perv and liked being peed on--wouldn't that sort of defeat the whole purpose?" Just something to think about.

work in progress

Down a corridor I don't belong
I saw the Ouroboros never was
but the shadow of the Dragon's fall
to earth; illusion, coiled symmetry

bad haiku

Alone on the couch
Fear Factor is on but mute
TV-girl eats worms

Scorching desire
lifecycle of the jackpot
never extinguished

I'm 2% angry
at myself for wanting
what I cannot have

Adam, atom, Atman

The time it takes to pour another drink,
A pitcher falls unnoticed, hangs mid-air
Holding in abeyance certain facts:
The car won’t start. A tumor grows unchecked.
The roof leaks. A train careening off its tracks...
A commonplace to say things fall apart;
The mystery’s it all together holds.
Impossible, emergent yet from the start,
What is this spiral looming lyre world?
From hidden groves strategic chessboards play
out imposed order’s false utility;
Technicians conjure dark & dread new days
Perfect black arts’ violent contingencies.
Cathedrals built dissolve within a breath.
All striving distilled into one wish, death.

Soft power

kaleidoscope panopticon
O dreamworld neverland
In technicolor camouflage
United do we stand.

A carousel's rotation
consummation is but shy;
Won't you join us for a spin
beneath our contrail sky?

(Presidents, celebrities
come and then they go;
cokenpepsistandardoil
remain behind the throne.)

Clusterbombs of Freedom
for a world redeemed of sin,
the True and Only Heaven
we will tuck you in.
